Mark gives his first employer, Louis E. Rodwell, AIA, much of the credit for helping him hone these skills. “Rodwell was a prominent Pasadena architect who specialized in classical and period style architecture.

He also had a very good technical background due to his construction experience,” Mark recalls. “My three years of being mentored by Rodwell sharpened my sense of proportion and scale and redefined my understanding of design details in the classical tradition.”

Later in his career, Mark worked with another accomplished architect, Richardson Robertson, AIA, who is renowned for his ability to recreate “old world” timeless architecture.

Mark also admires and has closely studied, analyzed and gained valuable insight from the work of other historic restoration and gifted architects as Paul Williams, Wallace Neff, George Washington Smith and Reginald Johnson.

In 1991 Mark Houston’s own lifetime dream came true when he created and founded Mark Houston Associates, Inc., a design build contracting firm located in Monrovia, California.
